MY APPROACH

What I draw and why

What I draw

Using subtle shades of gray or bright and soft colors, I represent different types of female figures: “Body”, “Heads & Busts”, “Puddles & Masks” . These representations sometimes refer to classical or religious portraits.

The “Pieces” of bodies are inspired by archaeological fragments of sculptures , which allow us to rediscover the body from another angle.

A gentle strangeness often emerges from these figures finding themselves in a suspended moment, which can evoke a facet of humanity coming from elsewhere.

With the “Bloomings”, women are covered with floral patterns representing energies circulating within them. This wrapping of vegetation once again allows the body to appear in another light.

WHY ?

I seek to represent women outside of current canons of beauty, to break them out of a straitjacket.

This attachment to the image of women comes from my experience and my family history marked by sexual abuse . In addition to an abuse I've experienced, I've always had the impression of living with something invisible, feeling an incomprehensible discomfort. Breaking the silence led me to discover the origin of this invisible discomfort that comes from my family bloodline . I was able to accept the weight of these memories coming from elsewhere and which echoed my experiences.

While it was difficult to accept these sensations in our materialistic world that wants to understand everything, I drew unconsciously this invisible feeling of discomfort.

Beyond that, these experiences allowed me to embrace my spiritual vision of the world which had always been expressed through art without being aware of it.

Drawing allows me to heal and support the notion of "feminine" which is stifled in our societies and which characterizes my work: slowness, gentleness, the unmanifest... It is this feminine part which can remain under covered after sexual abuse (regardless of our gender).

In brief, I try to show that our body is a vehicle of something intimate which is sacred.
